Historic Galesville

This picturesque village was founded in 1652 and has a rich and interesting history. The name changed several times throughout the years, and the small-town feeling has remained and many of the early buildings & homes are still intact. It was a ‘port of entry,’ facilitating import and export trade, and has been home to a thriving tobacco industry, fishing, oystering, crabbing, canneries, boat building, and family life. Many local families have been in Galesville for many generations. The Hartge’s are currently 9th generation with several families living in or near Galesville.

Today, this quiet maritime community has several churches, many historic homes, antique shops, a wine and spirits store, galleries, marinas, and restaurants.

Special events in the town include an annual July 4th Parade and the Village Christmas Decoration Contest.

Locals and visitors enjoy meals together at local restaurants such as Pirate’s Cove and Stan Joe’s Riverside.
